Nick Markakis is an outfielder currently with the Baltimore Orioles.
Markakis was originally drafted in 2001 by the Cincinnati Reds, from Woodstock High School in Woodstock, Georgia but decided to attend Young Harris College instead.
The Reds drafted him again in 2002, but he did not sign then either.
He was the Orioles' first-round draft pick, seventh player picked overall in 2003, and he signed.
In 2008, Markakis 20 HR, 48 doubles, 87 RBIs, and scored 106 runs for his team.
Markakis's hitting eye improved in 2008, as his .406 OBP, .306 Avg and career high 99 walks indicate.
Markakis signed a 6-year, $66.1 million extension on January 21, 2009 avoiding arbitration.
Markakis has also been honored with his very own shirt this season called "Nick the Stick, Camden's Finest."
With the new contract extension expect a lot of Orioles fans to be wearing them.
